While interning at Brian Communications during May through August of 2019, I made social media graphics for the company’s Instagram and Facebook pages. These graphics included making holiday posts for Mother’s day, Father’s day, Independence day, as well as showcasing the Brian Communications team and talent.

In making the Mother’s day project, I worked on making a vector graphic that could flexibly suit both the Twitter and Instagram dimensions and still share a similar look. Making a patterned frame suited the post well, along with using brand guidelines colours and text.

With the Father’s day post, I made many iterations of the graphic, and experimented with layout and illustrations in Adobe Illustrator. In deciding the final graphic, the ties worked best as these did not interfere with the text in the graphic.

In making the Independence Day post, I worked alongside another Intern on the Creative Team to make a social media post. This project was super fun, I was very interested in making a motion graphic and my fellow intern had experience making stop motion videos and proposed we do one with an Independence picnic day theme. It was so much fun getting to work with another designer on this project, and we created a frame by frame stop motion video with some apple pie and lemonade.
In other posts, I enjoyed working closely with the brand guidelines, and matching work done in years prior while simultaneously adding small changes, like with the Memorial day bookclub. In this post, I simply added colour back onto the books of the B&W images; a style used in posts from years prior.

My process throughout working through each project involved receiving assets and communications with the social media Public Relations team, and sending them a few questions about any other precise measures they were looking for with the post, but they were very thorough and often gave me much creative liberty beyond following brand guidelines and working with the given assets.

The final deliverables for this project period were 5 sets of social media graphics, and a few GIFS for the Instagram story posts that correlated to the Instagram posts and Twitter posts.
While working with Brian Communications, I made many drafts, and what I loved about working at Brian Communications was how the team encouraged me to take my time to rework and rework a design until I had landed on something even better than I thought I could accomplish. This is something I’ve applied to my work and have seen incredible improvement in my process in the past year.
